Why don't you just give me a keygen program for my software?
Initially, that was the plan. After all, lots of other companies do that. There are several problems with keygen (Registration Key Generator) systems that LOCKDOWN solves:
- Keygens don't work. Period. We discovered this just weeks after releasing our first software title. The problem with keygens is that they use a specific method for generating registration codes. It's easy for crackers to discover this method and distribute a keygen that unlocks your software, as I'm sure you've seen for countless other programs. LOCKDOWN generates registration codes randomly, and uses other techniques to protect your software that are described in more detail below.
- Keygens aren't automatic. Every time you make a sale you have to email out the registration code. That's what we at Rebrand Software like to call a MAJOR Pain in the... you know. LOCKDOWN is fully automatic, you just put your software up for sale and you're done!
- Once you give out a registration code using a Keygen it's final. People can steal your software just by saying it doesn't work and asking for a refund. LOCKDOWN lets you remotely disable software in the event of a refund.
- LOCKDOWN is so much more than a keygen system could ever be. Not only does it protect your software, but gives you more sales options, statistics and helps you track and maintain your sales.
- Frankly, our opinion is that Keygens are crap. We are only interested in bringing you quality products that actually work, so we spent a year creating LOCKDOWN from scratch. Give it a try free for 1 month and you'll see what we mean.
How does it work?
It's easy! Here is a quick overview of how the system works:
- Each of your customers will create an account and receive a registration code when they purchase your software
- The first time the software is run, the user will be asked to enter their username and registration code. They will only need to enter this information once.
- Once this information is validated by our authentication servers the user will be free to use the software.
- If at any point you need to disable the software, due to a refund or piracy attempt, you can do so with the click of a button!
- If you want to charge a monthly fee for your software, that's easy too. You can have up to three different "leases" which allow the software to be purchased for different periods of time. When the time is up, the software will automatically be disabled unless you receive another payment.
How do I use it?
The system is fully automated, meaning you don't need to email registration information or keep track of users. The user can pay for the software, create an account, and download the full version automatically!
- All RebrandSoftware.com brandable products are already compatible with the LOCKDOWN System*. The programming is embedded in your software already, all you have to do is join LOCKDOWN and turn it on. No additional software or web scripts are necessary.
- We provide you with a specially coded URL for each of your software titles. After a user purchases your software using your existing payment system, you redirect them to this URL.
- The user provides their email address and our system generates a unique registration code for them. This information is emailed to you, and to the user. Afterwards, the user is directed to your download page for the software.
- You can administer each account directly through your My Account page. From there, you can see how many times the software has been used, how many different computers have tried to use it, how many attempts have been prevented, and much more! If you think you need to disable a specific license, you can do so with one click!

So, when a user registers, what is the process?
When set up correctly, the LOCKDOWN system should resemble this:
The user clicks your purchase button
They are brought to your payment page
They pay
They are redirected to your special LOCKDOWN URL
They receive their registration information immediately, and are also sent an email receipt
You receive a copy of the email as well to notify you of a successful transaction
Lockdown redirects to your full version download URL
The user downloads the software.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it really work? How can I disable access to the software remotely?
Yes, it really works! In order to run, your software will have to authenticate itself to our servers using a combination of Email Address, Registration Code, and Computer ID. It will only run if it has permission from you!
So, someone buys my product, gets a registration code, and unlocks it. Then they give the software and the code to their friend. How does LOCKDOWN prevent this?
While other similar software protection systems cannot prevent this, LOCKDOWN can. The first time a user runs your program and enters their registration information, our servers store that computer's unique computer ID. If another computer tries to use the same registration information, but the Computer ID is different, that computer will not be allowed to run the software. You can change this setting to allow multiple computers to use one account if you want.
What if the user is offline or cannot access the license servers? Does that mean the program won't run?
The user will need to be connected to the internet the first time they use the software. After that, if the user is offline or cannot access our servers, the software will still run. If you disable the software, the next time the user is online and runs the program it will be disabled. Once it has been disabled, it will stay that way even if the user is offline or can't access our servers.
I can tell that it will be easy for me to use LOCKDOWN, but will it be easy for my customers?
Absolutely. All your customer will see is a small box asking them for their email and registration code. After that, they will never need to enter this information again (unless, of course, you disable the account).
What happens if I decide to cancel my LOCKDOWN membership?
You can cancel any time you like, and your software will work exactly as if you had never been a member in the first place. Any disabled accounts will become enabled again and the software will no longer require registration.
If I become a member, how many of your products can I protect?
It's unlimited. You can protect all the software titles you have now, as well as any you plan to buy in the future, all for one low monthly fee.
Is it really secure? Can users just guess at registration codes or use a KeyGen program?
Yes, it really is secure. One of the best things about LOCKDOWN is that KeyGens won't work. LOCKDOWN's registration keys are completely random, and our system uses a three point check: Registration Code, Email, and Computer ID to validate users.
For security reasons, we can't go into specific details, but LOCKDOWN has many different ways to foil attempts to illegally access your software. Some of these include Encryption, system tampering checks, and specially coded URLs.
Even if someone were to manage to access an account or create a fake one, you could still disable it with the click of a button! (Warning: This may provide extreme pleasure and force you to laugh like an evil madman.) In the near future we will be integrating blocking features that will allow you to completely block certain IP addresses or Computer IDs from ever accessing any of your software.
Do you use LOCKDOWN yourself?
Yes, and I don't know what I did without it! (seriously!) I am not only the author of the system, but a user as well. We use LOCKDOWN on all the consumer versions of our software, and it has been a magnificent success.
Previously, we had been using "secret" links to allow customers to download the full versions of our software. One day, someone figured out those links and stole the full versions of all our software. Then they told others how to get the software. That night, I took our software offline and wrote the very first version of LOCKDOWN. It was installed the next day, and now we no longer have to worry about illegal distribution of our software.
